Tennis Competes Among New England's Best at ITA Regional Championships

Middlebury, Vt. - September 28, 2019 - Playing against individuals from some of the top teams in the Northeast Region, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team had student-athletes competing at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regional Championships, hosted at Middlebury College on Friday.

In doubles play, Catherine Peabody (San Francisco, Calif.) and Annissa Aamoum (Dulles, Va.) took on Lauren Hernandez (Chester, N.J.) and Isabelle Rovinski (New York, N.Y.) of Bates College and fell 8-3.

The Lyons also had a pair of student-athletes entered into the singles competition, including Ching-Ching Huang (Lukang Township, Taiwan) and Anya Gerasimova (Salem, Ore.). Gerasimova drew the No. 7-seeded individual in the tournament, Carly Levitz (Chappaqua, N.Y.) of Colby College and fell 6-0, 6-0.

Mount Holyoke College's best effort of the day came with Huang, who took on Ipek Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) of Babson College. Huang won the opening set, 7-5, before dropping the second set 7-6 following a close 7-5 tiebreaker. In the super tiebreaker, Huang fell to Akgul 10-5 to see her run in the tournament come to a close.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will travel to Worcester, Mass. on Thursday, October 3 for a 6 p.m. contest with Holy Cross.
