Swimming & Diving Currently 6th at Hamilton Invitational

CLINTON, N.Y. - Day one of the Hamilton College Invitational concluded on Friday evening and through the first 14 events, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team sits sixth among the nine competing teams. The Lyons were paced by several strong efforts during the session, including a third-place finish from junior Bri Groves, to compile 110 points.

The meet opened with the 200-yard medley relay as the foursome of senior captain Claire Beckett, Groves, and first years Naomi Brown and Jacqueline Park were seventh overall with a mark of 1:54.95. In the 500-yard freestyle, fist year Ashton Bliss was 16th overall with a time of 5:47.66, while Brown was close behind in 18th with a mark of 5:48.37.

Groves then earned valuable points for the Lyons with her third-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. She notched a time of 2:17.82, while Park was 12th in the event with a time of 2:24.05. First year Tamara Mukulu went on to place sixth in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 26.36, followed by rookie Riley Hicks in 20th with a mark of 27.74.

In the 100-yard backstroke, first year Julia Swinehart swam to fourth overall with a time of 1:03.80, while Beckett took 19th in the event with a time of 1:09.49. The evening's session wrapped-up with the 800-yard freestyle relay. The all-rookie team of Bliss, Hicks, Courtney Dunham and Park were fifth overall with a time of 8:42.33.

Overall, the host Continentals lead the women's event with 238 points. Cortland State is second with 202.5 points, followed by Oneonta State (168), Trinity (158.5) and Oswego State (143.5).

Action at the Hamilton Invite continues on Saturday with two sessions. The first session of the day - and the second of the meet - gets underway at 10am, followed by the final session at 5pm.
