SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Wellesley College overcame a deficit after the first day of action, winning four of seven events on day two, to earn its 21st straight Seven Sisters Championship title. The event, which was hosted by Mount Holyoke College, saw the Blue post 1,096.5 points for their 28th overall championship.
Rounding out the field was Vassar College, which finished second overall, just 19 points behind the Blue. Smith College placed third overall with 541 points, the host Lyons were fourth with 525 points, followed by Bryn Mawr College in fifth place with 370 points.
Fresh off her performance on the 1-meter, Blue senior captain Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass./Framingham) posted a win off the 3-meter board with a score of 510.95 points. Her effort was not only an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark, but also her fourth-consecutive title in the 3-meter event at Seven Sisters.
Much like day one's strong effort off the 1-meter, the 3-meter action saw five competitors achieve NCAA Regional Qualifying marks. In addition to Sticco-Ivins, Smith senior Elly Stone (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) was second with a score of 478.25, followed by MHC sophomore Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz./Notre Dame Prep) in third with a school record mark of 476.20. Fourth-place went to Pioneers' sophomore Shoshana Werblow (Ashland, Ore./Ashland) with a score of 440.75, while Wellesley first year Noelle Bergere (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) was fifth (435.65).
Wellesley grabbed the lead from Vassar following diving, but the Brewers answered as first year Angharad Healey (Summit, N.J./Summit) won the 1650-freestyle in a time of 18:12.13. Vassar rookie sensation Rhea Randhawa (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills East) added her sixth victory of the championship in the 200-backstroke with a mark of 2:06.35, but the Blue edged back in as first year Emma Helmich (Huntington, Ind./Huntington North) won the 100-free (55.38).
Vassar earned valuable points in the 200-breaststroke, finishing 1-2 with first year Shannon Schrope (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) picking up the victory (2:23.98), but Wellesley answered once again as junior Jessie Feng (Princeton, N.J./Montgomery) won the 200-butterfly (2:13.24).
It all came down to the 400-yard free relay as the Blue and the Brewers went neck-and-neck in lanes four and five. Neither relay gained much of an edge throughout the race and in the end, Wellesley edged out Vassar, 3:41.05 to 3:41.29. The Blue's winning relay was comprised of Sunny Chiang (Troy, Mich./Troy), Solveig Stensland (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial), Kayleigh Svensson (Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) and Emily Yeager (Pittsfield, Mass./Williston Northampton School).
