NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The College Squash Association (CSA) has announced its weekly award winners and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Randima Ranaweera was named the Harrow Sports Women's Player of the Week. A senior captain, she played a critical role in securing the Lyons 5-4 come-from-behind win against #20 Wesleyan last weekend.
Locked in a 4-4 game against the Cardinals, it all came down to the number one match as Ranaweera, a native of Colombo, Sri Lanka, squared off against Wesleyan senior captain Mary Foster. The first game when to Foster by an 11-6 favor, but Ranaweera battled back for 
wins in the second and third games with 11-7 and 11-9 victories. Foster claimed the four (11-9) to tie the match at 2-2, but the Lyons captain held strong and won in extra points (12-10) to give MHC a 5-4 team victory.
In addition to her win against Wesleyan, Ranaweera also posted a 3-0 (11-4, 11-4, 11-0) victory against Allie Rubin in a 9-0 team win over William Smith. She added a 3-1 (11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 11-9) over Wellesley's Rosemary O'Connor as the Lyons defeated the Blue, 6-3.
Through seven matches, the former Sirimavo Bandaranaike Girls School graduate owns a 4-2 record from the first position. During her junior campaign, Ranaweera posted an 18-3 overall record. In addition to going undefeated from Jan. 10 through March 1, she helped the Lyons to a 5-4 team win over Colby College at the CSA National Championships.
As a sophomore, Ranaweera, who is a two-time Seven Sisters All-Tournament selection, went 19-8 overall, including wins over Brown, Bowdoin and Hamilton. She went 16-13 during her first year, which included a five-set win against Middlebury in the CSA National Quareterfinals.
In her career, Ranaweera has posted a 57-26 record. She has helped the Lyons to a 47-34 record in that time.
Mount Holyoke (5-2), which is ranked #21 in the latest CSA National Women's Poll, is back on the courts on January 11 when it hosts Middlebury at 2pm on the MHC Squash Courts.
