THE MATCHUP: Mount Holyoke wraps-up its regular season home schedule on Tuesday, welcoming the Lions of Emerson College. The game marks the first-ever meeting between MHC and Emerson, who joined the NEWMAC this season as the 11th member of the conference. Mount Holyoke looks to continue its two-game winning streak following victories over Western Connecticut State and conference-foe Wellesley last week.
THE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (6-5, 1-2 NEWMAC) posted its first NEWMAC victory last week, defeating Wellesley by a score of 11-9. The Lyons were paced in the game by junior Kirsten Kilburn's four goals and a five-save effort from sophomore goalie Katherine Kayser-Hirsh. Through 11 games, Bell leads the team in scoring with 47 goals and 17 assists for 64 points. Kilburn is second with 39 goals and five assists for 44 points, while sophomore attack Catherine Ryan rounds out the top three with 15 goals and a team-best 23 assists for 38 points. In goal, first year Isa Rodriguez (3-4) has a 10.90 goals against average and a .442 save percentage, while Kayser-Hirsh (3-1) has a 14.09 GAA and a .344 save%.
THE LIONS: Emerson (7-4, 1-2 NEWMAC) comes into Tuesday's action following a 7-4 loss at Wheaton on Saturday. In that game, Emerson trailed by a narrow 4-3 margin at halftime, but Wheaton came out strong in the second stanza, firing off three straight to take a 7-3 lead. A goal from Meredith Weber with 13:11 remaining pulled the game to within three (7-4), but the Lions would get no closer. Through 11 games, Weber leads the team in scoring with 36 goals and seven assists for 43 points. Senior Kanika Misra is second with 23 goals and 16 assists for 39 points, while sophomore Tayllar Righini rounds out the top three with 35 points on 24 goals and 11 assists. In goal, sophomore Victoria Kanaris (6-3) has a 9.11 goals against average and also sports a .532 save percentage, which is the top mark in the NEWMAC.
SENIOR DAY CELEBRATIONS: The Lyons Lacrosse program would like to take a moment and thank the efforts of the Class of 2014. Playing in their final regular season home game are MHC captains Naomi Miller and Brianne Phelan, along with Liz Randolph. All three have worked hard to make Mount Holyoke the successful program it is today. Their efforts are most appreciated and will truly be missed! Mount Holyoke would also like to recognize the committment and hard work of the six Emerson seniors, including Chelsea Phillips, Casey Jablonski, Krystie Zoch, Alex Corrado, Kanika Misra and Maggie Penza.
NEXT UP: Both teams return to action on Saturday as MHC heads to Springfield for a 1pm game, while Emerson travels to Wellesley for a 12pm match.
