BOSTON, Mass. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) has announced its weekly awards and Mount Holyoke College student-athlete Charlotte Wagner was recognized. The junior forward was named the conference's Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Lyons a pair of victories last week to close out the regular season.
A native of West Chester, Pa., Wagner scored four goals with two assists last week. She also added 17 shots over the two-game span, including 13 shots on goal. In an 8-3 win over Westfield State, she scored the first two goals of the game and assisted on the third. Wagner then tallied two more goals to move into the top spot in scoring for the NEWMAC, adding an assist, as MHC defeated Wheaton, 8-3.
Wagner, who has started all 18 games this season, leads the team in scoring with 18 goals and 10 assists for 46 points. She has notched 94 shots, including 63 on goal, with four game-winning goals. Wagner has scored at least one goal in 10 games this season, including four games with two or more goals.
Among the NEWMAC leaders, Wagner leads the conference in goals, points, shots and shots on goal. She is also second in assists.
A former standout at the Westtown School, Wagner started all 21 games as a sophomore, recording 12 goals and 13 assists for 37 points. She ranked second on the team in assists and points, while finishing third in goals. Additionally, she was second in the NEWMAC in assists. Wagner helped the Lyons advance to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season, while also earning National Academic Squad honors from the NFHCA.
During her first season, Wagner started all 21 games with 11 goals and 11 assists to her credit. She ranked fourth in the conference in assists, while notching three game-winning tallies to help the Lyons to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. A NEWMAC Offensive Performer of the Week selection, she was also an NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad honoree.
Mount Holyoke (12-6; 5-3 NEWMAC) earned the fifth-seed in the NEWMAC Tournament and will face fourth-seeded MIT on Tuesday evening at 6pm in the Quarterfinal Round. The winner of that game advances to Saturday's semifinal at top-seeded Babson (12pm).
