For the 12^th year in a row, the Mount Holyoke field hockey team qualified for the NEWMAC Tournament. The Lyons squared off against Springfield College in the quarterfinal round, falling 4-2. They closed out the 2010 season with an overall record of 11-6 and a league mark of 5-3. It was their most wins since the 2005 campaign.

With 13^th year head coach Andy Whitcomb at the helm, Mount Holyoke outscored its opponents 39-24 and came up with six one-goal victories.

The Lyons travelled to South Africa for two weeks of preseason training before returning home to post victories in four of their first five contests. After suffering three straight setbacks, they were nearly unstoppable for the remainder of the regular season.

Led by junior Shara Robertson and first year Stephanie Slysz, the team posted a 7-1 mark over the final month. They closed things out with six straight wins to solidify their position as the fourth seed in the NEWMAC Tournament. Among their victims were conference rivals MIT, WPI, Clark University and Springfield.

Robertson finished the year with 41 points on 19 goals and three assists. Six of her tallies went down as match winners. The forward recorded hat tricks in wins over Simmons College, Smith College, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Springfield. At the conclusion of the season, Robertson was named to the NFHCA New England East Region First Team as well as the NEWMAC All-Conference First Team. She earned the NEWMAC Player of the Week award on September 20. Two weeks later, she was selected to the womensfieldhockey.com National Honor Roll.

Slysz joined Robertson up front to form one of the region's most potent offensive tandems. After a slow start to her collegiate career, the forward erupted for seven goals during the month of October. Over the course of the season, she totaled eight goals and four assists. Slysz earned All-Region Second Team honors and was named to the womensfieldhockey.com All-Rookie Squad. The forward collected NEWMAC Player of the Week honors on September 27. She was also named to the womensfieldhockey.com National Honor Roll twice.

Juniors Taylor Hedges, Tricia Chase and Katie Gibson were each voted to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team. All three players were also selected to All-Region Teams. Hedges claimed First Team honors, while Chase and Gibson were named to the Second Team.

Mount Holyoke's unsung hero, Hedges dished out a team best seven assists. She was joined in the midfield by Chase, who finished with three goals and four assists.

Meanwhile, Gibson enjoyed a standout season between the pipes for the Lyons. Her goals against average of 1.37 and save percentage of .810 were both good for tops in the NEWMAC. She also registered five shutouts. Senior defender Meredith Spencer-Blaetz spearheaded the team's stingy defense, amassing 10 defensive saves.
