Elizabeth Kennan '60 – Advocate (Equestrian)

The 16th president of Mount Holyoke College, serving from 1978 to 1995, Liz Kennan profoundly influenced athletics at the college, overseeing the construction of the Kendall Sports and Dance Complex in 1985 and the Equestrian Center in 1987, among many other initiatives during her tenure. The Mount Holyoke College Equestrian Center remains one of the premier collegiate athletic facilities in the country. She also helped launch new academic programs including the Frances Perkins Program, new majors in environmental studies and computer science and innovative programs in areas such as women’s studies.
