Cross Country Finishes Well at NCAA New England Regionals

GORHAM, Maine - Paced by outstanding efforts from multiple runners, the Mount Holyoke College cross country team placed 24th of 53 teams at the 2013 NCAA New England Regional Championship, hosted by the University of Southern Maine. Leading the way for the Lyons was Elizabeth DeLeon and Dana Fry, both of whom finished in the top-95 in the event.

DeLeon (Boise, Idaho/Timberline), a sophomore, recorded a time of 23:18.08 to place 92nd overall in a field of 371 participants. Fry (Avon, Conn./Miss Porter's School), a junior captain, crossed the line in a time of 23:20.28 - good for 94th overall.

Sophomore Hillary Detert (Brunswick, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy) crossed the line in the 190th spot, recording a time of 25:01.27, while first year Brianna Weir (Rome, N.Y./Rome Free Academy) was close behind with a time of 25:03.69 - which was 192nd.

Also having solid efforts for the Lyons was junior Liz Baker (Orlando, Fla./Bishop Moore Catholic School), who was 207th overall with a time of 25:16.98. She was followed by senior Lucia Garcia (Bakersfield, Calif./East Bakersfield) and junior Zoe Weizenbaum (Amherst, Mass./Pioneer Valley Performing Arts), who finished 289th (26:57.88) and 311th (27:47.45), respectively.

Overall, Williams runner Kaleigh Kenny claimed the individual title in the 6k event, posting a time of 21:02.18. In the team category, Williams also claimed this year's title.
