Cross Country Opens 2013 Season at Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - Junior Dana Fry finished 13th overall to lead the Mount Holyoke College cross country team at the season-opening Smith Invitational. The Lyons finished 11th overall in the 18 team event, which saw Amherst take home the team title on the women's side.

Fry (Avon, Conn./Miss Porter's School) finished the 5k race in a time of 20:19.61, taking 13th in a field of 204 runners. Junior Liz Baker (Orlando, Fla. / Bishop Moore Catholic School) was second on the team and 90th overall in the event, posting a time of 22:17.15. Rookie Becca Rogers (Tucson, Ariz. / St. Gregory College Prepatory School) was close behind, placing third on the team and 96th overall with a mark of 22:26.16.

Senior Lucia Garcia (Bakersfield, Calif./East Bakersfield) was 111th with a time of 22:57.61, while rookie Emma Tolerton (Rockville, Md. / Richard Montgomery) was 140th with a time of 24:02.09 to round out the team effort.

Mount Holyoke returns to action next Saturday when it competes at the Franklin Pierce Invitational at 10am.
