Swimming & Diving Finishes 3rd at Hamilton Invitational

CLINTON, N.Y. - Powered by a number of outstanding efforts, the Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team finished third overall at the 2015 Hamilton Invitational. The Lyons, who were fifth after the opening session, were led by four first-place finishes to move up to third with a total of 505 points.

Leading the way on day two was senior Cathleen Pruden, who won the 400-individual medley in a time of 4:26.88. That mark was not only an NCAA B Cut, but also a Hamilton pool record. She also went on to win the 1650-freestyle in a time of 17:30.46. Pruden once again hit a B Cut and the Hamilton pool record.

Pruden went on to help the 400-medley relay team win with a time of 4:08.95. Other members of the winning foursome included junior Anne Kuenning, first year Bri Groves and junior Emily Craig.

Groves also had a solid effort on the day, winning the 200-breaststroke with a time of 2:34.04. That mark was also a Hamilton Invitational meet record. She was also fourth in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:01.46.

Also finishing well in the 200-breast was senior Sarah Crocker, who was fourth overall with a time of 2:39.96. She was also fifth in the 100-breast, touching the wall in a time of 1:14.12. Junior Katie Tyler finished well in the 100-free with a time of 57.68.

In the 200-free relay, the team of Kuenning, senior Erica Carvell, Craig and Tyler were second overall with a mark of 1:45.68, while in the 400-free relay, Craig, Tyler, Groves and Pruden finished second overall in a time of 3:47.94.

Hamilton won this year's invitational with a score of 980 points. Cortland State was second with 536 points, followed by Mount Holyoke (505), Oneonta State (499) and Smith (498).

Mount Holyoke is now idle until January 12th when it travels to Wheaton College where it will face the host Lyons and Clark for a 1pm meet.
