Pruden Repeats as 200-IM Champion; Swimming & Diving 9th After Day 2 at NEWMACs

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – It was another outstanding day of competition for the Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team as it rounded out day two of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship with a pair of school records. Through seven events, the Lyons sit ninth overall in the field of 10 teams.

The Lyons opened the evening in solid form as the 200-yard freestyle relay team of juniors Katie Tyler (Hadley, Mass./Hopkins Academy) and Anne Kuenning (Bow, N.H./Bow), along with senior Erica Carvell (Chicago, Ill./Metea Valley) and junior captain Emily Craig (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili Senior) finished eighth overall in the championship final. The foursome posted a time of 1:41.62.

Senior captain Cathleen Pruden (Raleigh, N.C./Ravenscroft Academy) then successfully defended her title in the 200-yard individual medley, recording a school record time of 2:04.40 for the victory. That time surpassed her own mark of 2:05.41, set last season at the NEWMAC Championships.

Tyler then competed in the consolation of the 50-yard freestyle, swimming to sixth in her heat and 16th overall in the field with a time of 25.10.

In the final event of the evening, the 400-yard medley relay, the Lyons had another outstanding effort as the foursome of Kuenning, Pruden, first year Bri Groves (Reston, Va./South Lakes) and Tyler powered their way to seventh overall in the championship final. The group set a new school record in the event with a time of 4:00.59, eclipsing the previous record of 4:01.50, set back in 2014.
