WORCESTER, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team kicked-off its season in fine fashion on Friday evening, picking up several wins in a tough meet at Assumption College. The Greyhounds pulled away with a 157.5 to 99.5 victory, but the Lyons saw two athletes record multiple victories.

MHC opened the meet with a solid start as junior Anne Kuenning, senior Cathleen Pruden, first year Bri Groves and junior Katie Tyler swam to second overall in the 200-yard medley relay. The foursome posted a time of 1:55.03.

Pruden then set the tone of the evening, besting several records, on her way to a three-win evening. She opened with a victory in the 1,000-free, setting a new Assumption pool record with a time of 10:27.11, besting the previous record of 10:32.16 which was set in 2011.

She went on to win the 500-free in a time of 5:15.03 and claimed victory in the 200-individual medley, setting another Assumption pool record with a time of 2:10.27. The previous record of 2:13.54 was set just last weekend by Greyhounds swimmer Niamh Morgan.

Groves also had an outstanding effort in her collegiate debut, winning the 100-breaststroke in a time of 1:08.89. She also won the 200-breast in a time of 2:31.55 and finished runner-up in the 100-butterfly with a time of 1:03.60.

Tyler swam to third overall in the 50-free with a time of 26.57, while Kuenning tied for third in the 100-back with a time of 1:04.96.
