Swimming & Diving Defeats Westfield State, 163-119

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - The Lyons saw multiple swimmers post victories as Mount Holyoke powered past Westfield State, 163-119 in dual meet action on Saturday. Leading the way was junior Anne Kuenning, who picked up first place finishes in four events.

Kuenning (Bow, N.H./Bow) claimed victory in the 50-backstroke in a time of 30.25. She then touched the wall first in the 200-back with a mark of 2:17.19. Additionally, Kuenning helped the 200-medley relay to a win with a time of 1:57.84 and also swam lead in the 200-free relay which was first to the wall in a time of 1:46.43.

Other members of the 200-medley relay included sophomore Claire Beckett, first year Bri Groves and junior Katie Tyler. In the 200-free relay, Kuenning was joined by sophomore Topaz Mukulu, junior captain Emily Craig and senior captain Cathleen Pruden.

Pruden picked up individual victories in the 1,000-free with a time of 10:30.97 and the 200-breaststroke with a mark of 2:26.36. She also touched the wall first in the 200-individual medley with a time of 2:11.97.

Groves also had a solid afternoon, winning the 200-butterfly in a time of 2:24.52. She also won the 50-fly with a time of 27.65. Also finishing well on the afternoon was Tyler, who won the 50-free in a time of 26.26. Craig won the 100-free with a mark of 57.95, while senior Erica Carvell posted victory in the 500-free with a time of 5:45.65.

The Lyons return to the pool next Saturday when they compete at Western Connecticut State at 12pm.
