Swimming & Diving Currently 5th at Hamilton Invitational

CLINTON, N.Y. – The Mount Holyoke College swimming & diving team opened action at the 2015 Hamilton Invitational on Friday. The Lyons stand in fifth overall after the opening session, just 18 points out of third place, with 199 points. The host Continentals lead action heading into day two with 379 points.

The Lyons opened the meet with a record setting effort as the foursome of junior Anne Kuenning, senior Cathleen Pruden, first year Bri Groves and junior Katie Tyler combined for a time of 1:53.45 in the 200-yard medley relay. That time was good for a new Invitational record.

Pruden went on to win the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.52. That mark was not only a Hamilton pool record, but also an NCAA B Cut. Tyler added to the solid efforts, finishing third overall in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.12.

Groves finished sixth overall in the 200-yard butterfly, posting a time of 2:23.99, followed by senior Sarah Crocker was ninth in the same event with a mark of 2:28.41. Kuenning went on to place third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.77, while senior Erica Carvell, who was ninth in the 500-free with a time of 5:41.12.

Rounding out the action on Friday evening was the 800-free relay team of junior Emily Craig, Carvell, Groves and Pruden, who posted a time of 8:15.28, to finish second overall.

Action at this year's Hamilton Invitational continues on Saturday, beginning with Session 2, which will start at 10am. The final session will conclude that afternoon, starting at 3:30pm. Fans can watch Saturday's action live by clicking HERE.
