Squash Shoulders Tough Loss at Williams

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College squash team shouldered a tough loss to Williams College on Friday evening, falling by a 9-0 margin to the #12 team in the nation. The Ephs are now 1-1 on the season, having fallen against #7 Columbia earlier in the afternoon. The Lyons slip to 0-2 on the young season.

Williams put forth a solid effort from each end of the lineup as Nicole Friedman bested sophomore Brandy Williamson at the top of the ladder, 11-9, 11-6, 11-3. From the second position, first year Ragini Ghose battled in the opening game, but was unable to hold off the Ephs' Hayley Parsons, who posted a 12-10, 11-7, 11-5 victory.

Lyons' junior Allison Shilling suffered an 11-5, 11-4, 11-5 loss from the third position against Nicole Feshbach, while first year Lessly Portillo fell against Charlotte Walsh at four by an 11-0, 11-2, 11-2 margin.

From the fifth position, sophomore Emily Chang fell to Williams' Ananya Mahalingam-Dhingra, 11-4, 11-4, 11-4, while senior Annie Wong had a setback from the sixth position against Esther Baek, 11-2, 11-4, 11-1.

At seven, MHC's Rose Minichiello shouldered an 11-5, 11-1, 11-2 loss to Lily Grant, while junior Amanda Lee fell against Caroline Hogan at eight, 11-1, 11-1, 11-5.

Rounding out the action was sophomore Kirina Gair-MacMichael, who fell against Williams' Tafarii McKenzie, 11-1, 11-0, 11-2 in the ninth spot on the ladder.

The Lyons are now idle until December 3 when they travel to Northampton to face Smith College at 7pm.
