Squash Posts 9-0 Victory at Smith

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Lyons squash team picked up its first victory of 2015 on Thursday, defeating Smith College by a 9-0 margin. Mount Holyoke improves to 1-2 on the young season.

Sophomore Brandy Williamson posted a solid win at the top of the ladder, defeating Josephine Surer by an 11-3, 11-6, 11-2 margin. First year Ragini Ghose was an 11-5, 11-6, 11-2 victor over Carly Melillo at two, while junior Allison Shilling defeated Geena Choo, 11-5, 11-7, 11-1 from the third spot.

At four, first year Lessly Portillo was an 11-2, 11-5, 11-2 winner against Leah Jeon, while sophomore Emily Chang had an 11-5, 11-3, 11-5 victory over Jin Lee at five. In the sixth position, senior Annie Wong posted an 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 win against Gracie Maull.

Senior Rose Minichiello went on to defeat Smith's Lee (also named Amanda), 11-4, 11-6, 11-0 at seven, while MHC's Amanda Lee downed Julia Yun at eight by an 11-1, 11-2, 11-2 margin.

Rounding out the action was first year Tanishka Sachidanand's win over Stephanie Wang at nine by an 11-3, 11-6, 11-2 margin.

The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they travel to Connecticut College. MHC will face the host Camels at 10:30am before taking on Vassar at 1pm.
