Squash Falls to #12 Brown & #9 Drexel at Yale Round Robin

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – It was a tough day of action on Sunday for the Mount Holyoke College squash team, who suffered 9-0 losses to 12th-ranked Brown University and ninth-ranked Drexel University, in neutral site action at the Yale University Round Robin. With the losses, the 27th-ranked Lyons slip to 4-13 on the season.

The Lyons opened action against the Bears, shouldering a tough 9-0 loss before taking on the Dragons of Drexel.

In the afternoon match, the #9 Dragons came out firing, led by sophomore Hayley Hughes who defeated Brandy Williamson by an 11-4, 11-4, 11-2 margin at the top of the ladder.

First year Fiona Power claimed victory in the No. 5 spot, 11-4, 11-5, 11-2 against MHC's Emily Chang, while sophomore Ryan Morgan followed them with a win over Allison Shilling of MHC from the No. 2 position, 11-3, 11-0, 11-1.

Senior captain Catherine Ryan was unable to best Mary Fung-A-Fat from the third position, falling 11-3, 11-3, 11-2, while Drexel's Elisa Money picked up an 11-5, 11-2, 11-5 win at four over first year Lessly Portillo. Seniors Annie Wong and Rose Minichiello fought hard at six and seven, respectively, but fell to Abigail Kaplan (11-1, 11-2, 11-4) and Maria Diagama (11-5, 11-3, 11-2).

At eight, Apoorva Addepalli bested MHC first year Tanishka Sachidanand, 11-1, 11-2, 11-8, while at the ninth spot, Dragons' first year Kathryn Bottger defeated Syry Mitchell, 11-1, 11-2, 11-1.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Wednesday when it competes at Amherst at 6pm.
