Squash Suffers Loss in Season Opener at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College squash team opened its 2015-16 season on Saturday, squaring off against Wellesley College at the Dana Hall School. The Lyons shouldered a tough 8-1 loss to the Blue in the opener, which saw junior Amanda Lee pick up MHC's lone point.

Lee posted an 11-6, 11-9, 11-8 victory from the ninth position against Wellesley's Lumi Kinjo. MHC's Brandy Williamson also had a tough fight from the top spot on the ladder, shouldering an 8-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-3 loss to Sarah Zhang.

Wellesley had strong efforts from the 2-8 positions as Phyllis Lin recorded an 11-6, 11-5, 11-8 over MHC's Ragini Ghose. Lyons' junior Allison Shilling then suffered an 11-3, 11-7, 11-7 loss from the third position against Meera Nayar.

Gabriella Wynne gave the Blue another point with an 11-3, 11-4, 11-7 victory from the fourth position against Lessly Portillo, while Rhea Advani posted an 11-3, 11-7, 11-2 win against MHC's Emily Chang at five.

Wellesley saw Kate Loftus notch an 11-2, 11-7, 11-5 win over Tanishka Sachidanand, while at eight, Ruby Feng grabbed an 11-5, 11-4, 11-4 win over MHC's Annie Wong.

The Lyons return to action next Friday when they travel to Williams College for a 7pm match.
