Squash Sweeps Conn. College and Vassar; Wins Third Straight

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mount Holyoke College squash team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, sweeping Connecticut College and Vassar College, for its third straight wins. The Lyons improve to 3-2 on the season.

In the match against the host Camels, the Lyons posted a 6-3 victory. After a loss from the ninth position, senior Annie Wong notched an 11-7, 11-7, 11-7 win over Anne Holly at six. The Camels picked up another win to find MHC down 2-1 after the first round.

A loss at eight set the Lyons back by a 3-1 margin, but sophomore Emily Chang went on to post an 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 11-8 victory against Nina Nalle at five, senior Rose Minichiello claimed an 11-6, 7-11, 11-7, 11-6 won over Caroline Lippincott at seven and first year Ragini Ghose battled to a 4-11, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9 victory over Mawa Ballo in the second spot to pull the Lyons ahead by a 4-3 margin.

First year Lessly posted victory at four with a 12-10, 11-4, 11-7, while sophomore Brandy Williamson, defeated Ashley Arthur by an 11-3, 11-6, 11-7 margin to seal the match.

Against the Brewers, Wong opened the match with a victory at six, defeating Emma Glickman by an 11-9, 11-5, 11-6 margin. First year Tanishka Sachidanand then battled back from being down 2-0 to win in five with a score of 8-11, 1-11, 11-5, 11-8, 12-10. Junior Allison Shilling then powered her way to victory from the third position with an 11-3, 13-11, 1-11, 11-7 win.

Lee, Chang and Ghose went on to claim victory in their respective matches, while Minichiello won from the seventh spot.

Mount Holyoke is now idle until January 12 when it travels to Colby for a 5pm match.
