Rowing Has Solid Performance on Lake Quinsigamond

Worcester, Mass – The Mount Holyoke College rowing team was back on Lake Quinsigamond in the mix against three other teams on Sunday. The Lyons had solid performances, finishing third in the varsity eight race.

Mount Holyoke's V8 boat comprised of coxswain Zoe Zelkowitz (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale), (8) Elizabeth Hazen (Brookline,Mass./Brookline), (7) Halee Mahoney (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer High School), (6) Ariya Lawson (Washington, D.C./St. Paul's School), (5) Emma Taylor (Beverly, Mass./.Waring School), (4) Sharlow Hitchcock (Methuen, Mass./Methuen), (3) Hannah Leblanc (Portland, Ore./Sunset), (2) Lainie Laronde (Manlius, N.Y./Fayettville-Manlius), and (1) Mira Rosenkotz (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge Island) finished third with a time of 7:14.20. The race was competitive as MHC was just edged by Simmons and the University of Rochester, who had times of 7:13.70 and 7:12.60, respectively.

Action moved to the second varsity eight race, where the Lyons boat crossed the line in 8:15.90, only 2.2 seconds behind Clark in second. The Boat was controlled by (C) Ilana Goldin (Livingston, N.J./Livingston), (8) Sriya Pradhan (New Delhi, India/Mayo College Girl's School), (7) Sabina Morris (New York, N.Y./Beacon School), (6) Gabrielle Spano (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), (5) Grace Remillard (Harvard, Mass./The Bromfield School), (4) Casey Roepke (Burlingame, Calif./Crystal Springs Uplands School), (3) Molly Aslin (Germantown, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School), (2) Paloma Cruz (Point Richmond, Calif./Saint Mary's College HS), and Irina Mara (Arlington, Mass./Arlington).

The final event of the morning was the varsity four race, which was controlled by (C) Zelkowitz, (4) Lawson, (3) Jen Villa (East Elhurst, N.Y./Florello H. LaGuardia HS), (2) Kari Meko (Nashville, Tenn./Franklin Road Academy), and (1) Kate Dutilly (Moneta, Va./Community HS of Arts & Academics). The Lyons finished first with a time of 8:57.60, in front of the University of Rochester, who clocked in a time of 9:03.50.

Mount Holyoke returns to Lake Quinsigamond next Saturday facing Assumption College.
