Rowing Competes at the New England Rowing Championships

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Mount Holyoke College rowing team competed at the New England Rowing Championships (NERC) on Saturday on Lake Quinsigamond.

Action kicked off with the second varsity eight race, where the Lyons placed fifth with a time of 8:02.372 in their opening heat. Winning the heat was Williams College with a time of 7:10.067. MHC went on to race in the Third Final and finished fourth with a time of 7:55.646. Bates College won the Grand Final of the 2V8 races with a 6:45.070 time. The 2V boat was comprised of Amelia Green (c) (Sanford, Fla./Seminole), Mira Rosenkotz (8) (Bainbridge Island, Wash./Bainbridge Island), Paloma Cruz (7) (Point Richmond, Calif./Saint Mary's College HS), Molly Aslin (6) (Germantown, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School), Gabrielle Spano (5) (Marshfield, Mass./Marshfield), Lainie LaRonde (4) (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), Grace Remillard (3) (Harvard, Mass./The Bromfield School), and Kate Dutilly (2) (Moneta, Va./Community HS of Arts & Academics).

In the varsity eight race, the Lyons crossed the line in 7:03.905 in their opening heat - good or sixth place.  Mount Holyoke registered a time of 7:21.553, placing fourth in the Third Final. Bates, who is the defending NCAA National Champions from 2017, won the heat with a 6:29.199 mark. They went on to win the Grand Final of the event with a time of 6:46.476. The Lyons V8 boat was led by Zoe Zelkowitz (c) (Scarsdale, N.Y./Scarsdale), Halee Mahoney (8) (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer High School), Hannah LeBlanc (7) (Portland, Ore./Sunset), Sabina Morris (6) (New York, N.Y./Beacon School), Elizabeth Hazen (5) (Brookline, Mass./Methuen), Ariya Lawson (4) (Washington, D.C./St. Paul's School), Sharlow Hitchcock (3) (Methuen, Mass./Methuen), Irina Mara (2) (Arlington, Mass./Arlington), and Emma Taylor (b) (Beverly, Mass./Waring School).

Mount Holyoke returns to Lake Quinsigamond on Friday when it competes at the 2018 National Invitational Rowing Championships. Action is slated to begin at 8am.
