Rowing Competes at the Head of the Charles on Sunday

BOSTON, Mass. - The Mount Holyoke College rowing team made its return to the Charles River on Sunday, competing in the 53rd annual Head of the Charles Regatta. The competition saw the Lyons varsity eight place 24th in the Collegiate Eight Division. The regatta took place on the historic Charles River and featured 53 events over the course of the weekend.

The Lyons boat featured first year Virginia Butt, sophomore Halee Mahoney, seniors Ariya Lawson, and Sophie Rabinow, sophomore Elizabeth Hazen, senior Nicole Villacres, and sophomores Mira Rosenkotz, Emma Taylor, and Hannah LeBlanc finished in a time of 18:27.714.

MHC crossed first marker at 4:20.3 and advanced to the Weld Boathouse in a time of 5:91.5 for a total race time of 10:11.8. It took 5:04 for the Lyons to advance to the Cambridge Boathouse, for a total time of 15:15.8. Mount Holyoke finally crossed the line with its time of 18:27.714.

The Bates College boat won this year's event in a time of 16:01.182, followed by Wesleyan (16:18.045) and Williams College (16:34.657) to round out the top three.  NEWMAC-rival WPI saw its boat finish eighth in a time of 16:43.630, while the Wellesley 'A' boat was 14th with a time of 17:04.267. The Blue's 'B' boat was 20th with a time of 17:41.462.

Mount Holyoke returns to action on Sunday, October 29th where it returns to Charles River to compete at the 2017 Seven Sisters Championship.
