Volleyball Topped by MIT in Season Finale, 3-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Oct. 31, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-4, 25-16, 25-11) to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in its 2009 season finale this afternoon at the Rockwell Cage. It was the Engineers 14th straight win over their New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes.

Mount Holyoke closed out the year with an overall record of 4-22 and went winless in nine tries against NEWMAC opponents. Meanwhile, MIT ended its regular season with a perfect 9-0 mark in league play. The Engineers upped their overall record to 25-7. They earned the NEWMAC regular season championship and will enter the postseason as the top seed.

Leading the way for the Lyons was sophomore setter Kateryna Kuc, who posted four kills and four assists. Classmates Kara Neidhardt and Rosa Marruffo added seven digs apiece.
