Volleyball Falls to Smith, 3-0

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (Oct. 27, 2009) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-9) setback to local rival Smith College this evening in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action at Ainsworth Gymnasium. It was the Pioneers 12th straight win over the Lyons.

Mount Holyoke was paced by first year outside hitter Kathryn Brummer, who tallied four kills and four digs. Junior outside hitter Rosa Marruffo posted three kills and five digs, while classmate Kateryna Kuc amassed seven assists and four digs from the setter position. Defensive specialist Kara Neidhardt chipped in with eight digs.

The Lyons (4-21, 0-8 NEWMAC) will put the finishing touches on their 2009 campaign at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
