The Mount Holyoke squash team, led by third-year head coach Erin Robson, went 7-17 during the 2014-15 campaign. Leading the way were strong efforts from senior Samantha Rosado and first year Brandy Williamson, who posted 10-17 and 8-20 records, respectively.
MHC opened the season with a strong 6-3 victory over Boston College. The Lyons shouldered a rough patch, falling in three straight contests before rebounding with back-to-back wins. MHC defeated Tufts by a 6-3 margin and took down Smith, 9-0, during action at the Wesleyan Round Robin.
An early December victory over Smith (8-1) set the stage for the final competition of the semester, the Division III National Invitational, hosted at Wesleyan. Rosado advanced to the consolation semifinals of the B draw before bowing out the action.
Mount Holyoke suffered a long stretch of losses in January, but rebounded in February at the Seven Sisters Championship, defeating both Smith (8-1) and Vassar (8-1) to finish second overall. Nearly every player on the ladder posted a 2-1 record during competition to lead the way, including first year Emily Chang, who was named to the Seven Sisters All-Tournament Team in addition to Williamson.
The Lyons headed into the CSA National Championships ready to go and came out on top in their opening match. Playing in the Epps Division, MHC defeated Georgetown by an 8-1 margin to advance to the semifinals, but fell to William Smith by a narrow 5-4 decision to fall into the consolation bracket.
Mount Holyoke saw its team season come to an end in the 3/4 playoff game, dropping a 5-4 match to Connecticut College.
Williamson and sophomore Allison Shilling headed to the CSA Individual Nationals, both playing hard in the opening round of the Holleran Division. Williamson fell into the consolation round after and opening loss, but rebounded with a win to advance to the consolation quarterfinals. She was unable to get past her opponent, bowing out the next day. Shilling suffered losses in the opening round and the consolation round to finish her season.
Leading the way for MHC in 2014-15 was Rosado, who had a 10-17 record, including an 8-15 mark from the second spot on the ladder. Williamson was 8-20 on the season, including 7-16 from the top of the ladder. Sophomore Sanjna Merchant finished with a 9-17 record, while junior Catherine Ryan and Chang both recorded 9-15 records.
Mount Holyoke closed out the year ranked 28th in the CSA rankings. Individually, Rosado was honored as the recipient of the 2015 Wetzel Award, given annually to a senior who began playing squash in college and has progressed to a high level of skill, demonstrates a sound understanding of the game, and exhibits good sportsmanship and a positive demeanor on the court.. Academically, Rosado and classmate Xianger Fei both garnered CSA Scholar Athlete honors.
