Golf Claims Eighth at Jack Leaman Championship

AMHERST, Mass. (April 18, 2010) – Led by sophomore Alexandra Irish, the Mount Holyoke College women’s golf team grabbed eighth place at the annual Jack Leaman Championship this weekend. A total of 11 teams competed in the two day tournament, which began on Saturday at Hickory Ridge Country Club and concluded today at the Orchards Golf Club.

Amherst College sprinted to the team title with a score of 659. The Lord Jeffs were followed by Wellesley College (669) and Williams College (673) in the top three. Mount Holyoke finished with a team score of 702.

Hayley Milbourn of Amherst carded a 158 (84, 74) to secure medalist honors for the second year in a row. She finished three strokes in front of Becky Miller of Williams, who turned in a score of 161 (80, 81). Four players finished in a deadlock for third place with their tallies of 162.

Irish’s two round tally of 164 (86, 78) was good for eighth place overall. The Lyons also received solid production from junior Sarah Keating, who took home 24th place with a score of 174 (85, 89).

Mount Holyoke will return to action next weekend at the Williams College Spring Invitational. The two day tournament is slated to begin on Saturday and conclude on Sunday.
