Irish Paces Golf at Vassar Invitational

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (April 11, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s golf team earned a seventh place finish at the Vassar College Invitational this weekend. A total of 11 squads competed in the two round tournament, which took place at the Dutchess Golf and Country Club (par 72 - 5,805 yards) in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

Amherst College took home the team title with a score of 670. The Lord Jeffs were followed in the top three by Williams College (676) and the host Brewers (681). Mount Holyoke finished with a team score of 712.

Vassar’s Celynne Balatbat posted a score of +16 (160 – 78, 82) to secure medalist honors. She ended the weekend three strokes ahead of Victoria Student of Williams (163 – 84, 79).

Leading the way for Mount Holyoke was sophomore Alexandra Irish, whose score of 167 (85, 82) was good for seventh place overall. Junior Sarah Keating placed 24th with her two day tally of 176 (85, 91). The competition featured 61 golfers.

The Lyons are slated to host the Massachusetts State Invitational on Friday at the Orchards Golf Club.
