Golf Opens Spring Slate at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. (March 21, 2010) – The Mount Holyoke College women’s golf team kicked off its 2009-10 spring slate with a 14th place showing at the Jekyll Island Invitational over the weekend. A total of 23 squads competed in the three round tournament, which took place at Indian Mound Club (par 72 - 5,819 yards) in Jekyll Island, Ga.

Methodist University earned the team title, posting a score of 951. The University of Illinois Wesleyan grabbed second place with a score of 983, and Seminole State College rounded out the top three with a score of 992. The Lyons tally of 1,066 was good for 14th place overall.

Emily Bachert of Centre College carded a 14 over 230 (77, 80, 73) to secure medalist honors. She finished two strokes in front of Methodist’s Susan Martin, who took second place after recording a three day total of 232 (79, 79, 74).

Mount Holyoke was paced by sophomore Alexandra Irish, who posted a three day score of 244 (78, 82, 84). Out of the 129 competing individuals, she collected 14th place. Junior Sarah Keating carded a 259 (86, 86, 87), which was good for 37th place overall.

The Lyons will return to action on Saturday, April 10 at Vassar College.
