Golf Wraps Up Fall Slate at Wellesley

WELLESLEY, Mass. (Oct. 18, 2009) – Powered by junior Sarah Keating, the Mount Holyoke College women’s golf team wrapped up its 2009-10 fall slate with a fifth place showing at the Ann S. Batchelder Invitational on Saturday. The tournament was hosted by Wellesley College at Nehoiden Golf Course (par 72 - 5,860 yards). It was originally scheduled to be a two day event, but today's round was cancelled due to poor weather conditions.

Williams College took home top honors with a score of 337. The Purple Knights were followed by Amherst College (341), Vassar College (351), Wellesley (359), Mount Holyoke (362), the College of the Holy Cross (375) and William Smith College (401) in the final team standings.

Vassar’s Alex Bello carded a one round score of 79 to secure medalist honors. She edged out Keating and Victoria Stubent of Williams, who turned in matching rounds of 81.

The Lyons next best finisher was first year Kate Merrill, who posted a 17th place result with a score of 91.

Mount Holyoke will resume play during the spring semester.
