Nichols Trips Up Field Hockey, 2-0

DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 15, 2009) - The Nichols College women's field hockey team picked up a 2-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College this evening at the Michael J. Vendetti Multi-Purpose Field. With their second straight win over the Lyons, the Bison improved to 5-0. It's the program's best start since the 1989 season. Mount Holyoke fell to 1-1.

Nichols (5-0, 1-0 TCCC) scored both its goals in the opening half. Sophomore forward Chelsea Correia got things going just 8:38 into the contest, when she found the cage for her fifth goal of the season. The Bison then pushed their cushion to 2-0 in the 28th minute, as sophomore forward Lauren Correia knocked in a rebound for her fifth tally of the year.

Mount Holyoke fell despite advantages in both shots (16-13) and penalty corner opportunities (9-1). Sophomore goalkeeper Krista-Jean Forand collected eight saves en route to her second consecutive shutout. Meanwhile, sophomore Katie Gibson turned away nine shots for the guests.

Mount Holyoke (1-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) is slated to participate in the Seven Sisters Classic this weekend. The Lyons will face off against host Bryn Mawr College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. before meeting up with Wilson College on Sunday at noon.
