Riding Rolls to Third Straight High Point Championship at Home Show

Riding SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. (Oct. 23, 2010) – Led by first year Cali Zimmerman and senior Katharine Henderson, the Mount Holyoke College riding team cruised to a first place finish at its home show today. It was the Lyons' third straight High Point Championship.

The event took place Mount Holyoke Equestrian Center and featured nine teams from around the region. Mount Holyoke recorded a near perfect score of 47 points. The Lyons were followed by the University of Massachusetts (32), Smith College (24), Westfield State University (20), Amherst College (19), Landmark College (16), Williams College (14), Springfield College (11) and Hampshire College (10). They now lead UMass by 29 points in the Zone 1, Region 3 standings.

Zimmerman was named Reserve High Point Rider and Intermediate High Point Rider after taking first place in her sections of the intermediate fences and intermediate flat divisions. Meanwhile, Henderson secured Reserve Novice High Point Rider accolades after grabbed first place in her section of the novice flat division and second place in her section of the novice fences division.

Mount Holyoke finished up the day with 12 blue ribbons. In addition to Zimmerman and Henderson, sophomore Clara Tate (novice flat), senior Elizabeth Tripp (open flat), first year Felicia Harrsch (intermediate flat), first year Flynn Vickowski (novice flat), sophomore Jessica Law (beginner walk-trot-canter), senior JoJo Gutfarb (open flat), senior Lindsay Sceats (open fences), junior Margaret Swanson (intermediate fences) and sophomore Paulina Erni (walk-trot) all came out on top in their respective divisions.

With her performance today, senior Kathryn Viechnicki qualified for the Zone 1, Region 3 Regional Championships in the novice flat division. She also became an intermediate flat rider.

Mount Holyoke will be off until Saturday, November 6, when it takes part in the Amherst College Intercollegiate Horse Show.
