Throwers Pace Outdoor Track and Field at Swanson Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (Apr. 7, 2012) – The Mount Holyoke College outdoor track and field team took part in the non-scoring Swanson Invitational at Wesleyan University today. Senior Miriam Larson-Koester set the tone for the Lyons with her outstanding production in the throwing events.

In addition to recording a first place toss of 39.13 in the discus, Larson-Koester also grabbed second place in both the shot put (11.17 meters) and the hammer (34.73). Her performance in the discus made her eligible for the New England Championships.

First year Meara Algama took home top honors in the javelin with a toss of 29.46 meters.

Meanwhile, junior Connie Ward secured third place in both the shot put (10.50 meters) and the discus (27.95 meters).

Mount Holyoke also received solid efforts from junior Jillian London and first year Dana Fry. London posted fourth place performances in both the hammer (29.08 meters) and the javelin (26.18), while Fry crossed the line fourth in the 3,000-meter run (11:14.45 meters).

The Lyons are slated to compete in the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
