Edebeli Paces Indoor Track and Field at Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (Jan. 21, 2011) – The Mount Holyoke College indoor track and field team returned to action at the Springfield College Invitational this afternoon. Senior Jacinta Edebeli set the tone with her outstanding all-around results. Edebeli got the Lyons on the board with her fourth place toss of 10.91 meters in the shot put. The veteran also grabbed eighth place in the 200-meter dash with her time of 28.18.

Junior Maddie Ballon tied her program record of 2.75 meters in the pole vault, taking 13th place overall. Meanwhile, senior Miriam Larson-Koester secured seventh place in the shot put (10.81 meters) and 16th place in the weight throw (11.81).

Mount Holyoke also received a boost from sophomore Naomi Miller, who took ninth place in the 800-meter run (2:32.48). First year Emily Baker chipped in with a 12th place showing in the 1,000-meter run (3:20.71).

A total of 10 teams from around the region took part in the annual competition. MIT racked up 163 points to take the team title. The Engineers were followed by Tufts College (89) and Wheaton College (75) in the top three. Springfield (68), Keene State College (47), Ramapo College (45), the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (41), Westfield State University (17), the Coast Guard Academy (6) and Mount Holyoke (4) rounded out the field.

The Lyons are scheduled to take part in the University of Southern Maine Invitational next Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
