SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. -- Mount Holyoke sophomore Natali Kostadinovic scored a third-set tiebreaker victory at No. 5 singles to salvage a point for the host Lyons as they fell 8-1 to Smith College in a NEWMAC match played Saturday in the MHC Indoor Tennis Courts.

Kostadinovic (Pirot, Serbia) defeated Smith's Sabrina Wang 7-6(4), 5-7, [10-8] to close out the match, with the visiting Pioneers' team win already assured.

Smith rose to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in NEWMAC matches this season, while Mount Holyoke fell to 8-5 with a 2-2 conference mark.

Missing her usual partner at No. 1 doubles in sophomore Kirat Kaur (Chandigarh, India) for the second straight match due to injury, junior captain Annika Chai (London, England) teamed up with first-year Rachel Allen (Mary Esther, Fla.) in an 8-0 loss to Smith's Lili and Clara Goshgarian. At second doubles, Kostadinovic teamed up with sophomore captain Cal Smith (Bridgewater, Mass.) for the first time and fell 8-4 to Ayla Hauser and Marielle Sauber. Mount Holyoke sophomores Kate Vavra (Weston, Mass.) and Kennedy Bagley-Fortner (Montclair, N.J.) then fell 8-6 at No. 3 doubles to Wang and Miranda Gibson, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 lead going into singles.

Mount Holyoke will host Wheaton on Tuesday at 5pm, while Smith is at Salve Regina next Saturday at 3pm.
