NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mount Holyoke College tennis team played at Connecticut College on Wednesday in the Lyons' final non-conference match, where they fell 7-2 to the host Camels in a match delayed by an hour during doubles due to a power outage in the facility.
The host Camels (6-5) won two out of three doubles matches and five out of six singles matches for the team win.
Sophomore Kennedy Bagley-Fortner (Montclair, N.J.) was 2-0 for the Lyons (8-4) despite the loss. Bagley-Fortner teamed up with sophomore Kate Vavra (Weston, Mass.) for a 8-5 victory over Teagan O'Hara and Ella Griffiths at No. 3 doubles, then proceeded to defeat Caroline Champa 7-5, 4-6, [10-7] at No. 6 singles. Vavra went on to a competitive 6-3, 6-4 loss to Courtney Banks at No. 4 singles. Junior Annika Chai (London, England) fell 6-3, 6-3 to Caitlin Cass at No. 1 singles.
Sophomore Kirat Kaur (Chandigarh, India) finally saw her win streak end at six matches in a row at No. 2 singles, as Kaur retired due to injury after dropping the first set against Lily Kerachsky. Mount Holyoke has also missed first-year Rachel Allen (Mary Esther, Fla.) from the past two matches due to injury.
Mount Holyoke plays at Smith on Saturday, April 13 at 12pm.
