Swimming and Diving Finishes Ninth Overall at 2020 NEWMAC Championships

Cambridge, Mass. - February 24, 2020 - Following a four-day New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Swimming and Diving Championship this past weekend, Mount Holyoke College earned 267 points en route to a ninth-place finish among league foes. The meet was hosted at MIT's Zesiger Sport and Fitness Center from Thursday to Sunday.

Sunday's morning prelim session began with the 1650 freestyle, as Sarah Ratzlaff (Salt Lake City, Utah) was the Lyons' top finisher, clocking in at 20:17.88 to finish 18th overall. Natalie Burkett (Framingham, Mass.) was just behind her with a time of 20:18.46, while in the 200 backstroke, Anais Magner (Ohiwa, New Zealand) was just outside the cut off for finals, producing a time of 2:17.96. 

Junior Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya) was just outside of the cut for finals in the 100 freestyle, posting a time of 55.86 seconds, while in the 200 breaststroke, Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas) was Mount Holyoke College's top finisher with a time of 2:37.05. Naomi Brown (Bloomington, Ind.) delivered a time of 2:24.97 in the 200 butterfly, finishing just three spots outside of the cut off for finals.

In the evening session, Mount Holyoke College had three divers competing on the one-meter board, as sophomore Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.) was fourth with a mark of 449.70, followed by Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.), who produced a score of 432.35. Katie Kolozsvari (Danville, Ind.) was 10th with a score of 388.25. 

Wrapping up the championship with the 400 freestyle relay, the team of Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton, Mass.), Riley Hicks (Bow, N.H.), Erin Schrama (Taunton, Mass.) and Mukulu took 10th with a time of 3:49.57.

Mount Holyoke College will now have three divers competing at the NCAA Division III Diving Regionals, hosted at Springfield College. The first session will be Friday, February 28 at 2 p.m.
