Swimming and Diving Suffers Setback Versus Wellesley

South Hadley, Mass. - November 23, 2019 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team fell for the first time this season, as the Lyons dropped a decision to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Wellesley, 198-97, on Saturday afternoon at the MHC Natatorium.

Kicking off the meet with the 200 yard medley relay, the team of Anais Magner (Ohiwa, New Zealand), Erin Schrama (Taunton, Mass.), Naomi Brown (Bloomington, Ind.) and Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya) took fourth with a time of 2:00.71. Next was the 1000 freestlye which was won by Ashton Bliss (Yorktown, Va.) in a time of 11:32.58, 29.15 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. In the 200 freestyle, Riley Hicks (Bow, N.H.) was the Lyons' top finisher with a time of 2:13.07, while in the 100 backstroke, Magner took third with a time of 1:06.78. 

Schrama touched third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.06, while Brown and Bliss took third and fourth, respectively, in the 200 butterfly as Brown clocked in at 2:27.54, just ahead of Bliss, who touched in 2:28.87.

In the last event prior to diving, Mukulu took second in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.21 seconds, just ahead of Richmond, who touched in 26.86 seconds. 

Senior Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) won the one-meter diving event with a score of 233.90, while Katie Kolozsvari (Danville, Ind.) took second with a total score of 217.35. Later on the three-meter board, Nemivant was victorious again with a score of 249.35, while Kolozsvari was second with a mark of 213.90.

The 100 freestyle was the first event after the one-meter diving competition, and Mukulu was Mount Holyoke College's top finisher with a third-place time of 57.69 seconds. Next, Magner took third with a time of 2:22.14 in the 200 backstroke, while Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas) scored second-place points in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:42.60. Adrienne Corr (San Diego, Calif.) produced a third-place finish in the 500 freestyle, clocking in at 5:50.16, while in the 100 butterfly, Mukulu placed third, touching in 1:05.65.

Wrapping up the meet, Schrama was Mount Holyoke College's top finisher in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:26.51, before the 400 freestlye relay team of Richmond, Magner, Bliss and Leese combined for a time of 4:06.11, finishing third.

The Lyons will return to action on Friday, December 6 as they head to Rochester, N.Y. to compete in the RIT Invitational, beginning at 4 p.m.
