Swimming and Diving Finishes Third Overall at MHC Invitational

South Hadley, Mass. - January 19, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team wrapped up competition at the MHC Invitational, a two-day meet hosted at the MHC Natatorium on Saturday and Sunday. The Lyons took third overall with a total of 767 points.

Wellesley College won the meet with a total of 1241.5 points, while Smith was second with 770.5 points of their own. After Mount Holyoke College, Merrimack took fourth with 589 points and Western New England rounded out the group with 204.

On the three-meter diving board, Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) won her second competition of the weekend as she produced a nationally-qualifying score of 455.10 in the 11-dive competition. Sophomore Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.) followed with a score of 390.65, while Katie Kolozsvari (Danville, Ind.) was next with a mark of 379.40. 

Starting off the morning session with the 200 medley relay, the team of Anais Magner (Ohiwa, New Zealand), Erin Schrama (Taunton, Mass.), Naomi Brown (Bloomington, Ind.) and Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton, Mass.) combined for a time of 2:01.39 to take fifth overall. Next, in the 400 individual medley, junior Ashton Bliss (Yorktown, Va.) finished second overall with a time of 4:56.57, while Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas) was third with a mark of 4:57.05.

Junior Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya) was Mount Holyoke College's top finisher in the 100 butterfly, as she turned in a time of 1:04.44 to finish sixth overall, while in the 200 freestyle, Riley Hicks (Bow, N.H.) led the way with a time of 2:12.84. Schrama and Richmond finished back-to-back in the 100 breaststroke, with Schrama touching in 1:17.86, just ahead of Richmond's mark of 1:18.14. 

Sophomore Adrienne Corr (San Diego, Calif.) was Mount Holyoke College's top finisher in the 100 backstroke, producing a time of 1:09.44, just ahead of Magner, who touched in 1:09.74. The Lyons were also fifth in the 800 freestyle relay with the team of Brown, Hicks, Schrama and Bliss combining for a fifth-place time of 8:43.06. 

Bliss kicked off the afternoon session with a victory in the 1650 freestyle, clocking in at 18:27.30, while Natalie Burkett (Framingham, Mass.) was fifth in the event with a mark of 19:32.85. In the 200 backstroke, Magner was the Lyons' top performer with a fifth-place finish, touching in 2:23.73, while in the 100 freestyle, Mukulu notched a time of 56.99 seconds, good for seventh. 

Corr and Leese were third and fifth, respectively, in the 200 breaststroke, as Corr clocked in at 2:40.25, just ahead of Leese's time of 2:42.37. In the 200 butterfly, Bliss was second with a time of 2:20.00, while Brown was fifth with a mark of 2:33.01. 

Wrapping up the meet, the team of Richmond, Gigi Picard (Wilmette, Ill.), Bliss and Mukulu combined for a time of 3:54.29 in the 400 freestyle relay, good for fourth overall. 

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will be hosting their senior meet on Saturday, January 25 as the Lyons will square off with Simmons beginning at 12 p.m.
