Divers Win Both Boards in Swimming and Diving Tri-Meet With Trinity and Vassar

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - January 14, 2020 - The Mount Holyoke College swimming and diving team traveled to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on Tuesday and took on Vassar College and Trinity College in a tri-meet hosted at Kresge Pool.

The Lyons fell to the host Brewers 201-94 and 208-90 to the Bantams. Coming into the meet, Vassar was receiving votes in the latest Collegiate Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Division III National Rankings.

Senior Samantha Nemivant (Scottsdale, Ariz.) continued her impressive senior season with a first-place finish on the one-meter board with a mark of 238.35, while sophomore Kathryn Murphy (Fairport, N.Y.) was first on the three-meter board with a score of 237.30. Murphy also took second on the one-meter with a score of 227.40, while Nemivant was second on the three-meter with a mark of 234.25. 

Starting with the 200 medley relay, Mount Holyoke College's top team was Anais Magner (Ohiwa, New Zealand), Ashton Bliss (Yorktown, Va.), Naomi Brown (Bloomington, Ind.) and Lauren Leese (Round Rock, Texas), which turned in a time of 2:07.89. Following the relay was the 1000 yard freestyle, where Natalie Burkett (Framingham, Mass.) and Sarah Ratzlaff (Salt Lake City, Utah) competed, with Burkett touching in 12:13.70 and Ratzlaff in 12:32.90.

First-year Erin Schrama (Taunton, Mass.) was the Lyons' top performer in the 200 freestyle, as she produced a time of 2:07.75 to take fifth overall, while in the 100 backstroke, Leese was third, notching a time of 1:07.85. Schrama took fourth in the 100 breaststroke, touching in 1:17.95, while in the 200 butterfly, Brown placed fourth overall with a time of 2:33.25.

Mount Holyoke College's Tamara Mukulu (Nairobi, Kenya) and Caitlyn Richmond (Northampton, Mass.) both competed in the 50 freestyle with Mukulu posting a time of 26.33 seconds, followed by Richmond's mark of 26.43 seconds. In the 100 freestyle, Mukulu touched in 59.58 seconds to take seventh overall, while in the 200 backstroke, Magner posted a fifth-place time of 2:26.98 to lead the Lyons.

Sophomore Adrienne Corr (San Diego, Calif.) was also fifth in the 200 breaststroke, producing a time of 2:47.94, while in the 500 freestyle, Brown was sixth with a time of 5:57.60, Riley Hicks (Bow, N.H.) was seventh with a time of 6:00.39 and Ratzlaff followed with a mark of 6:06.47.

Mukulu was sixth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:07.26, just ahead of Schrama, who posted a time of 1:07.55 and Leese, who took eighth with a time of 1:08.84. Bliss was the Lyons' top performer in the 200 individual medley, turning in a time of 2:32.27, while the team of Richmond, Leese, Magner and Mukulu wrapped up the meet with a sixth-place time of 4:09.52 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Up next, Mount Holyoke College will return to the MHC Natatorium to host the MHC Invitational on Saturday, January 18 and Sunday, January 19.
