Mount Holyoke Soccer Falls to Wheaton, 3-0 on Saturday

NORTON, MASS. - The Wheaton College women's soccer team utilized three second half goals to boost  themselves over the Mount Holyoke College Lyons, 3-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on Saturday during at Mirrione Stadium.

Wheaton advances to 10-6 overall and 2-4 in NEWMAC play while Mount Holyoke falls to 7-7 overall and 2-5 in conference.

Although Wheaton kept pressure on Mount Holyoke's defense during the first half, tallying 12 shots, they were unable to get on the board as Mount Holyoke's goalkeeper Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ont./Cawthra Park Secondary School) registered four saves to keep the score even at zero.

The host Lyons finally broke through at 80:24 when senior Megan Healy (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) found junior Caren McCarthy (San Jose, Calif./Pioneer)  where she pushed through a goal on the right side of the net to gain the 1-0 lead. Junior Aunyes Hermantin (Broken Arrow, Okla./Broken Arrow Senior) netted a goal just three minutes later with a shot to the left side.

First-year Aymara O'Brien-Pappalardo (Easton, Conn./Joel Barlow) kept up the momentum for Wheaton when she passed to McCarthy who recorded her second goal of the game that hit off the cross bar and dropped into the net, giving Wheaton their final insurance goal at 87:06.

Mount Holyoke's best chance to score came in the final minutes of the game as they put up shots against Wheaton missing just wide.

Sophomore Leann Wolf (8-5) earned the win for the Lyons as she dished out three saves, while Marshall earned six saves in the loss.

Mount Holyoke will continue NEWMAC action on Tuesday, facing Springfield College at 6:00pm.  Wheaton will also be in action on Tuesday, hostsing the U.S. Coast Guard Academy at 4:00pm.
