Two From Soccer Garner All-Conference

SOUTH HADLEY, MASS. – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer All-Conference teams have been announced and Mount Holyoke College saw two student-athletes recognized. Earning First Team recognition was Sara Sanaú Ruiz, while Zoe Marshall was a Second Team selection.

Sanaú Ruiz, a sophomore forward from Zaragoza, Spain, garnered First Team honors for the second year in a row after posting a NEWMAC-best 12 assists. A starter in all 18 games, she added five goals for a team-high 22 points. Sanaú Ruiz also recorded top marks in shots (52) and shots on goal (25).

The former P.P. Dominicos – Cardenal Xavierre High School standout currently ranks 17th in Division III with a 0.67 assists per game average. She also ranks second among the nation's best in single game assists, having recorded four in a 7-0 win over Southern Vermont.

During the season, Sanaú Ruiz posted at least one assist in seven games, including her four-assist game to open the season against the Mountaineers. Sanaú Ruiz leads the NEWMAC in assists, while ranking fourth in points. Additionally, she notched a team-best, four goals in conference play. Sanaú Ruiz also earned NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week once this year.

Marshall, a senior goalie and captain from Mississauga, Ont., earned her second year-end honor following a season where she led the conference with 131 saves. A captain, she posted a .840 save percentage, which was good for fourth in the NEWMAC. In addition to a 1.53 goals against average, Marshall earned three shutouts, including one in conference action against Clark. She played 1472:22 minutes of action over 17 games, including 16 as a starter.

The Cawthra Park Secondary School graduate had three games during the year where she posted double-digit saves, including 15-save efforts against Western New England and Clark. Marshall was a recipient of the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week honors once this season.

In her career, Marshall appeared in 58 games, including 55 as a starter owning a 22-30-3 record. Over the course of her career, she has made 451 stops, ranking third all-time in school history. Marshall also ranks third all-time in career shutouts with 11.

In addition to the All-Conference honors, the Lyons also saw junior captain and midfielder Suz Rose named to the soccer All-Sportsmanship Team. The award, which was established this academic year, is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season. Rose, along with eight other players from the conference soccer teams were honored.

Rose of South Hamilton, Massachusetts played and started in all 18 games. She scored four points, on two assists and a goal this year.

Mount Holyoke ended the campaign with an 8-10 overall record while going 2-8 in conference.
