    It’s not every day that you get to explore a culture that’s completely different than your own. Taking a trip to a foreign place often opens your eyes, and your stomach, to situations that push you far beyond your comfort zone. It is not an easy thing to do, but 15 of Mount Holyoke’s own braved the journey across the globe, travelling to their head coach’s native Japan over the winter break this past January.
  • Soccer Garners NSCAA Gold Team Ethics Award

    The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) recently announced its 2013 Ethics and Sportsmanship Awards and the Mount Holyoke College soccer team garnered Gold Team Ethics honors. The Lyons, who did not accumulate any penalty cards during the season, were just one of 26 schools from across all Divisions to earn the Gold honor.

    Led by seventh-year head coach Kanae Haneishi, the Mount Holyoke College soccer team posted a 6-12-0 record in 2013. The Lyons also had a 1-9 mark in NEWMAC action. Leading the Lyons was Hartsock, who recorded four goals with four assists for 12 points, while in goal, first year Zoe Marshall posted a 3-9 record and was a NEWMAC Defensive Performer of the Week honoree.

The Engineers move to 10-6-2 overall and 4-5-1 in conference play, while the Lyons conclude their season with a 6-12-0 record and 1-9-0 mark in the NEWMAC.

The win moves the Lyons to 6-11-0 and 1-8-0 in conference play, while the Pioneers slip to 5-9-2 and 3-5-1 in the NEWMAC.

With the victory, the Blue improve to 6-7-1 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play, while the Lyons slip to 5-8-0 and 0-5-0 in the NEWMAC.

    Powered by a two-goal effort from sophomore forward Megan Kim, the Amherst College soccer team defeated Mount Holyoke College by a 4-0 margin in non-conference action on Thursday at the MHC Soccer Field. With the win, the Jeffs improve to 4-1-2 overall, while the Lyons slip to 5-5-0.

    Sophomore Ali Rossi scored the winning goal three minutes into the second overtime to give the Mount Holyoke College soccer team a 2-1 victory over Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) in non-conference action on Tuesday. With the victory, the Lyons move to 5-4 overall, while the Trailblazers slip to 4-6.

    Emerson jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over nine minutes into the first half and the goal stood as the Lions defeated visiting Mount Holyoke College, 1-0 in NEWMAC action on Saturday. With the win, Emerson moves to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Lyons move to 4-4 and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.

    Second half strikes from first year Syry Mitchell and sophomore Ashleigh Hartsock propelled the Mount Holyoke College soccer team past Bay Path College by a 2-0 margin in non-conference action on Tuesday. With the victory, the Lyons move to 4-3 on the season, while the visiting Wildcats are now 3-4 overall.

    Tuesday marks the sixth all-time meeting between the Wildcats of Bay Path College and Mount Holyoke. Bay Path currently hold the series advantage with a mark of 3-2. The Lyons won last year’s meeting by a 9-0 decision in Longmeadow. Junior captain Hannah Yee paced the effort a season ago, scoring four goals in the contest.

    Freshman Brionna Voight scored two goals and added an assist for a career-high five-point afternoon to lead Western New England past Mount Holyoke, 3-0, in non-conference women's soccer action on Tuesday at Suprenant Field. The Golden Bears are now 4-3 overall while the Lyons dip to 3-2 on the season.

    Led by a goal and three assists from junior Kara Singleton, the Mount Holyoke College soccer team posted a 5-1 win at Southern Vermont College on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Lyons move to 3-1 on the season, while the Mountaineers slip to 0-4.
  • Soccer Match Called Due to Lightning; Rescheduled to October 3rd at 7pm

    Due to heavy thunder and lightning, Tuesday night's soccer match between Mount Holyoke and Amherst was forced to end before the game became official. A make-up date has been decided and the two teams will play once again on Thursday, October 3rd at 7pm. The contest will once again be played in South Hadley on the MHC Soccer Field.

    Wednesday’s contest marks the 25th all-time meeting between the Lyons and the Jeffs dating back to the first game in 1978. Amherst owns the series lead with a 17-6-1 mark. The Jeffs have dominated much of the series against Mount Holyoke, including 13 straight victories since the 1997 season. MHC last claimed victory over its area-rivals in 1988 - a 2-0 win.

    Aided by a pair of tallies in the second half of the game, Colby-Sawyer College shutout Mount Holyoke College, 3-0 in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Chargers remain unbeaten and move to 4-0, while the Lyons shoulder their first loss of the season and are now 2-1.

    Saturday’s game marks the sixth meeting between the Lyons and the Chargers from Colby-Sawyer. Mount Holyoke currently owns the series advantage by a 4-1-0 margin, which dates back to the 1982 season. Last year, Colby-Sawyer grabbed their first victory, claiming a 4-0 win on September 8. The Lyons won the 2011 meeting by a score of 2-1.

    Behind a pair of second half tallies from first year Autumn Buck and junior Cassidy Robinson, the Mount Holyoke College soccer team shutout Nichols College in the season opener for both teams. The Lyons got the goals mid-way through the frame and held on to remain undefeated over the last three season opening games.
