Soccer Falls to Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass.— Junior Jenny Moore (Duxbury, Mass.) scored a pair of goals and senior Meghan Andrew (Easton, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and an assist as Babson College remained unbeaten with a 3-0 victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With its second consecutive win, Babson moves to 6-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play, while Mount Holyoke falls to 3-3-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the NEWMAC.

Despite a 14-2 advantage in shots over the opening 45 minutes, the Beavers were unable to break the scoreless deadlock until the final seconds of the first half. Lyons' first-year goalkeeper Zoe Marshall (Mississauga, Ontario) made seven first half saves and got a fortunate bounce when Moore's shot in the 41st minute deflected off the crossbar and out of danger. Babson made the most of its final scoring opportunity of the half though, as Andrew redirected a cross from first-year Katie McKenna (Sandwich, Mass.) to Moore, who slipped an eight-yard shot inside the left post just 12 seconds before halftime to take a 1-0 lead.

Moore wasted little time giving the Beavers a two-goal advantage, scoring just 5:26 into the second half to earn her second multi-goal game of the season. Junior Rachael Kantor (Westfield, Mass.) set up the score, collecting the ball on the left flank, before beating a defender and blasting a hard shot on frame. Marshall was able to make the initial save, but Moore was able to knock home the rebound from just inside the six-yard box.

Andrew capped the scoring with her fourth goal of the year at 65:21, one-touching a cross from sophomore Meghan Tyson (Scarborough, Maine) past Marshall at the far post to give Babson a 3-0 margin.

Marshall made a game-high 11 saves for Mount Holyoke while junior Melina Kapotsis (Watertown, Mass.) and first-year Meaghan Merullo (Winchester, Mass.) made one stop to earn their fifth shutout of the season.

The Beavers held a 22-6 advantage in shots and took all six of the corner kicks in the game.

Both teams will return to action on Tuesday as Babson will travel to take on Endicott College at 4:30 p.m., while Mount Holyoke will host Bay Path College in a 6 p.m. start.
