BOSTON, Mass. - Emerson jumped out to a 1-0 lead just over nine minutes into the first half and the goal stood as the Lions defeated visiting Mount Holyoke College, 1-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Saturday. With the win, Emerson moves to 6-4 overall and 1-1 in conference play, while the Lyons move to 4-4 and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
Alyssa Giannone put the home team on the board at 9:02 of the first half of action after she headed in a pass from Riana Odin past Lyons keeper Zoe Marshall. MHC, which had a 3-2 edge in shots for the opening frame, found themselves at a disadvantage in the second half as Emerson posted a 7-3 advantage in shots.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second half, which saw MHC's Marshall record three saves. Emerson goalie Melanie Escobar also finished with three saves in the contest.
