SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Second half strikes from first year Syry Mitchell and sophomore Ashleigh Hartsock propelled the Mount Holyoke College soccer team past Bay Path College by a 2-0 margin in non-conference action on Tuesday. With the victory, the Lyons move to 4-3 on the season, while the visiting Wildcats are now 3-4 overall. 

The first half of play was dominated by the Lyons, who posted 17 shots on goal opposed to Bay Path's one.  Hartsock (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) saw an early attempt at a goal but Bay Path first year goalie Alma Rizvani (Prospect, Conn./Woodland Regional) had a diving save to keep the game scoreless. 

Rizvani – who recorded 13 saves in the first half alone - later had an impressive in-air save after a high shot from Mitchell (Amherst, Ma./Amherst Regional) nearly went in at the left corner. 

Mount Holyoke started the second half strong once again controlling most of the ball possession.   The team saw 12 shots, bringing a total of 29 shots through the contest. 

Mitchell got the Lyons onto the score board with a goal in the 66th minute.  Junior Kara Singleton (Parsonsfield, Maine/Sacopee Valley) earned the assist after she laid a cross into the box where Mitchell controlled with one touch and powered into the lower right corner of the goal. 

Hartsock answered with a second goal two minutes later after dribbling through defenders up the middle and giving a hard kick into the right corner for her third tally of the season. 

First year goalie Alyssa Tabrisky (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Kent School) recorded the shutout victory, making one save, while improving to 2-0 on the season. Rizvani finished with 19 saves in the Bay Path goal. 

The Lyons are at Emerson College on Saturday for a 3pm game, while Bay Path battles Pine Manor at home on Thursday at 4pm.
