THE MATCHUP: Wednesday's contest marks the 25th all-time meeting between the Lyons and the Jeffs dating back to the first game in 1978. Amherst owns the series lead with a 17-6-1 mark. The Jeffs have dominated much of the series against Mount Holyoke, including 13 straight victories since the 1997 season. MHC last claimed victory over its area-rivals in 1988 - a 2-0 win.
THE MOUNT HOLYOKE LYONS: Mount Holyoke (2-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) is coming off a tough 3-0 loss to Colby-Sawyer last weekend - its first loss of the 2013 season. The Chargers got a pair of goals in the second half to break open a close game and seal the win. In the Mount Holyoke goal, rookie netminder Zoe Marshall posted eight saves. Through three games, the Lyons are led in scoring by sophomore forward Ashleigh Hartsock (1g, 2a) and junior forward Cassidy Robinson (2g) who each have four points. Marshall is 1-1 on the season, sporting a 1.50 goals against average and an .824 save percentage.
THE AMHERST JEFFS: Amherst (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) kicked-off its 2013 campaign last weekend with a 1-0 overtime victory against Middlebury. Sophomore forward Megan Kim lifted the Jeffs to victory after taking advantage of a bad clear by the goalie, faking past her for the touch in and the game-winner at 97:08. Sophomore keeper Holly Burwick earned the victory with five saves.
NEXT UP: The Lyons return to action on Saturday when they travel to Southern Vermont College for a 1pm. Amherst is also in action on Saturday, hosting Bowdoin at 12pm.
