Soccer Edged by Coast Guard, 3-2

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – Aided by a two-goal effort from Lindsey Duplessis, the Coast Guard Academy earned a 3-2 victory over Mount Holyoke College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening. With the win, the Bears move to 6-7-1 and 3-2-1 in conference, while the Lyons slip to 5-9-0 and 0-6-0 in the NEWMAC.

Duplessis's (Rye, N.H.) first goal came in the opening half after a cross provided by first year Terry Netusil (Baldwinsville, NY.) landed in the box in traffic.  Deplessis took the shot off the rebound, putting the ball in the left corner of the goal in the 15th minute.

Her second scoring opportunity came early in the second half as she took a shot from outside the box and lifted it over the keeper and right into goal.  Five minutes later teammate Sarah Hills (Brooklyn, NY.) brought in the third and final goal with a rocketed shot from outside the 18 in the 56th minute.

Mount Holyoke was on the board first with a goal from Kara Singleton (Parsonfield, Maine/Sacopee Valley) whose successful finish was a rebound from a prior shot by Ashleigh Hartsock (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) that had been saved.

Hartsock went on later to score the second goal for the Lyons late in the second half off a cross provided by Singleton.  The ball was placed in an empty box and Hartsock took the swing low and away from the keeper into the right corner of the goal in the 77th minute.

Mount Holyoke had a total of nine shots on goal while Coast Guard had 17 on frame.  The Lyons held a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Both teams had first years' in goal with the Bears' Holly Moore (Pittsfield, Mass.) taking home her second win of the season having saved four shots.  The Lyons' Alyssa Tabrisky (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif./Kent School) saved seven shots though the game and is now 3-2-0.

Mount Holyoke continues its homestand on Saturday when it welcomes Wheaton at 12pm for a NEWMAC contest. Coast Guard will be back in action on October 22, hosting Wheaton at 7pm.
