Third year head coach Kanae Haneishi guided the Mount Holyoke soccer team to an overall record of 4-12-1 in 2009. The Lyons made their second straight appearance in the NEWMAC Tournament after posting a league mark of 3-5-1. They fell 3-1 to top seeded Wellesley College in the Quarterfinal Round.
The Mount Holyoke College Department of Athletics hosted its annual awards celebration this evening in Chapin Auditorium. Individuals from all 14 varsity teams were honored. Squash Head Coach Allen Fitzsimmons served as the events emcee. Soccer team member Lauren Orr earned the prestigious Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete Award.
Prior to the annual athletics awards celebration this evening, 17 Mount Holyoke seniors representing 11 teams were honored as part of the College's second annual Scholar Athlete Reception. The recognition event highlighted those student-athletes who have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.
The soccer team took part in its annual alumnae match on Saturday at the Turf Field. A total of 11 former Lyons made their way back to South Hadley to take part in the event. After participating in a friendly scrimmage, current members of the team joined the alums and their families for a reunion party.

Members of the Mount Holyoke soccer team will take part in an intercultural match with Japanese college players Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. on the Turf Field. It will be the third year in a row that the teams have participated in the event.
Award winning documentary filmmaker and well known motivational speaker Jenny Mackenzie will be visiting Mount Holyoke College on Tuesday, February 2 at 6:30 p.m. to present her new film entitled "Kick Like A Girl." Her appearance will highlight the Colleges National Girls and Women in Sports Day celebration.

The NEWMAC recently announced its 2009 Fall Academic All-Conference Teams. Twenty-one Mount Holyoke College student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in their respective sports as well as in the classroom. Academic All-Conference Teams were selected for the sports of cross country, field hockey, soccer, tennis and volleyball.
