Third year head coach Kanae Haneishi guided the Mount Holyoke soccer team to an overall record of 4-12-1 in 2009. The Lyons made their second straight appearance in the NEWMAC Tournament after posting a league mark of 3-5-1. They fell 3-1 to top seeded Wellesley College in the Quarterfinal Round.

Mount Holyoke was paced by forward Lauren Orr, who was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team after racking up 11 points on four goals and three assists. Two of her tallies went down as match winners. Orr erupted for two goals and one assist in her team's 9-2 triumph over the Coast Guard Academy. The Lyons nine goals in the contest were their most since the 1984 season, when they blanked Colby-Sawyer College 11-0. Orr also knocked in the winner in her team's 2-0 triumph over Springfield College. At the conclusion of the spring, Orr was selected to receive Mount Holyoke's Alumnae Association Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award.

Joining Orr on the NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team were senior defender Terry Orr and first year goalkeeper Ingibjörg Magnúsdóttir.

Terry Orr anchored a Lyons defensive unit that surrendered just 15 goals during league play. Mount Holyoke was at its best over the final two weeks of the regular season, when it posted a 3-1-1 mark to cement its spot in the NEWMAC Tournament. Led by Orr, the Lyons allowed just five goals during that span.

Magnúsdóttir made an immediate impact on the program after joining the squad from Iceland. She posted a goals against average of 1.90, a save percentage of .763 and three shutouts. Magnúsdóttir recorded shutouts in upset victories over Springfield (2-0) and Clark University (1-0). In addition, she recorded a season best 12 saves in the Lyons 1-1 tie with eventual NEWMAC Tournament Champion MIT.

Mount Holyoke also received solid production from midfielders Mary Cooke, Jesse Sugrue and Perry Markell. Cooke netted a team best five goals to go with one assist. Meanwhile, Sugrue and Markell chipped in with two goals and three assists apiece.

The Lyons picked up a 2-1 triumph over Lesley University in non-conference play. Sophomore forward Courtney Carrier knocked in the match winner in the 83^rd minute.
